This Privacy Policy explains how Estate One Company Limited ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use Nihongo (the "App"), our websites, and related services (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1Who we are

Nihongo is a Japanese-language learning app. The data controller is Estate One Company Limited, 奈良市月ヶ瀬桃香野3534-1. For privacy questions contact support@bynetica.com.

2Information we collect

a) Information you give us

  • Account data: your email address; if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name, email, and profile image those providers share with us.
  • Learning data: your word/grammar decks, review history and review schedule, progress, streaks, goals, favorites, settings, and reading speed.
  • Content you create or submit: sentences you write or submit to the community library, text you save to your reading plan, and notes.
  • Photos (Scan & Read): images you choose to photograph or upload for the App to read and analyze Japanese text.
  • Voice (Co-pilot / Speaking): audio captured by your microphone for speech recognition while you use those features.
  • Support communications: messages you send us.

b) Information collected automatically

  • Usage & analytics data: app version, platform, language, your JLPT learning level, and anonymous interaction events (event names, counts, and durations) tied to a random device id — never your name, email, or the text you write. This is first-party analytics with no advertising identifier; you can turn it off in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data.
  • Local storage / tokens: we store data on your device (e.g., your deck and cached audio) and an authentication token to keep you signed in.

c) Payment data

Subscriptions are processed by Apple or Google (or our payment processor). We do not collect or store your full card number. We may receive limited transaction status (e.g., that a subscription is active) to grant access.

We do not intentionally collect special-category data (e.g., health, biometrics). Please do not submit such data in sentences, photos, or audio.

3How we use information

  • Provide, operate, sync, and personalize the Service (including your review schedule and AI features).
  • Generate AI content you request (example sentences, translations, explanations, conversation, image/text analysis).
  • Process and display community content you choose to share publicly.
  • Maintain safety, prevent abuse/fraud, and enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines.
  • Provide support, send service messages, and (with consent where required) product updates.
  • Improve the Service and develop new features (using aggregated/de-identified or minimal data where possible).
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect legal rights.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your private content to show third-party advertising.

4AI processing & third-party providers

To deliver the Service we share certain data with service providers that process it on our behalf or to provide their feature:

Anthropic, PBC (Claude API)
Text you submit, and images for Scan & Read, plus relevant learning context — for AI sentence generation, translation, explanation, conversation, and image analysis.
Supabase
Account, learning data, shared content — database, authentication, file storage, hosting.
Google LLC
OAuth profile (Google sign-in); text for Text-to-Speech; microphone audio may be processed by your browser's speech service (often Google) for speech recognition.
Apple Inc.
Sign-in identifiers (Apple sign-in); subscription/transaction status for App Store payments.
RevenueCat
Manages in-app subscription state and entitlements via the app stores; receives purchase/transaction status — not your full card number.

These providers are bound by their own terms and privacy/security commitments. We do not authorize providers to use your private content to train their own general models, to the extent their terms allow us to so direct; review their policies for details.

5How we share information

  • With service providers (Section 4) under contract.
  • Publicly, at your direction — content you submit to the community library or shared readings is visible to other users and may show that it came from an account; do not include private information there.
  • For legal reasons — to comply with law, lawful requests, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of users, the public, or us.
  • In a business transfer — e.g., merger or acquisition, subject to this Policy.

6Your choices & rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export (port), restrict, or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. You can:

  • Edit or delete your decks, submitted sentences, and saved readings in the App.
  • Delete your account in-app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or by emailing support@bynetica.com; we delete or de-identify your personal data, except where we must retain it (e.g., legal, fraud-prevention, or already-public/independently contributed community content, which we may anonymize). See our account-deletion page.
  • Turn off anonymous usage analytics in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data.
  • Turn off camera/microphone permissions in your device settings.

To exercise rights, contact support@bynetica.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time the law requires. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

EU/UK (GDPR/UK GDPR): our legal bases are performance of a contract, consent, legitimate interests (security, improvement, communications), and legal obligation.

California (CCPA/CPRA): in the past 12 months we collected the categories in Section 2 for the purposes in Section 3. We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have rights to know, delete, correct, and to non-discrimination.

7International transfers

We and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses).

8Data retention

We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, then delete or de-identify it, except where longer retention is required for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons. Public community content may remain after account deletion in anonymized form.

9Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security on our database). No method is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us data, contact support@bynetica.com and we will delete it. (COPPA, GDPR-K, and similar laws apply.)

11Cookies & local storage

On the web, we use local storage and authentication tokens that are necessary to run the Service and keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not sell or share your personal information. Where required, we ask for opt-in consent before any non-essential storage, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. Manage your choices anytime in Settings → Privacy → Cookie preferences. Full detail is in our Cookie & Storage Policy.

12Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy. We will post the new version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
